Grads, Dad’s, Camp & Fish – June is Celebration Time on the Kern

Updated: Jun 4

As we near Summer Solstice our focus moves to mid-year celebrations like graduations and Father’s Day and shifting our getaway plans to daylight time and the outdoors for activities such as camping and fishing. What’s on your calendar for June?  Check out all the Kernville events going on this June to help you fill in your fun on your next camping visit to the Kern River this June!

Camping is one of America’s favorite outdoor activities and National Camping Month is observed in June every year.  Be it with friends, family, or even by yourself, camping is the perfect way to reconnect with nature and yourself, get grounded, and detox from our digital life. Camping is also a very popular summer activity that keeps young children engaged and exploring our outdoor spaces.

What events are happening @ the Kern this June?  Here’s our break down of events:

June 1st National Camping Month has been celebrated every year in the month of June since the 1970s. The month aims to increase participation in outdoor activities, especially among our youth. People are encouraged to join camps or go camping with their loved ones.

June 8th Kernville Bike Park Work Day clean up event begins @ 8:00am. See flyer below.

Wellness Day of free classes at Riverstone Wellness in Kernville.  See flyer below.

June 12th The Kernville Chamber of Commerce and commercial rafting companies sponsor fundraiser for chamber with a day of whitewater rafting fun.  Proceeds go to Kernville Chamber of Commerce to help fund recreation, Christmas in Kernville, and maintenance of the community facilities.  If June 12th does not work for you, no worries, whitewater rafting tours should run through September 2024.

June 13th

June 15th YesterFest concert.

June16th Father’s Day celebrates and honors the men who have embraced the important role of fatherhood. On this day, we also thank fathers and father figures for embracing the responsibility of nurturing and raising children, and for your devotion to your family.  Show Dad your appreciation by celebrating together in the outdoors!

June 18th Another outdoors activity and day of recognition goes to National Go Fishing Day highlighted on June 18th each year which encourages us to drop a line - in the nearest stream, pond, lake, or river. Join us soon, at the edge of the Kern, where dropping a line is so handy to your camp site.

June 20th In the Northern Hemisphere, the June solstice (aka summer solstice) occurs when the Sun travels along its northernmost path in the sky. This marks the astronomical start of summer in the northern half of the globe.  The June solstice occurs on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 4:51pm EDT.

With so many opportunities to get outdoors for your next celebration, we hope you will choose some quiet travel on the Kern. Unplug, unwind, building in some family time, some you time, and join us on the majestic Kern River this June!

Campers-Who-Care

Thank you for being a Camper who Cares! Planning for success in the outdoors includes little changes like packing trash bags so that your group can leave our wild spaces cleaner than you found them. Think scavenger hunt and have everyone in your group canvas the area you have just used whether it be for "day use" or overnight camping and get everyone to participate in leaving the space better than you found it. This teaches and mentors campers of all ages to respect and treat the outdoors with the care that it deserves.

Always practice Leave No Trace (en Español) principles and pack out what you pack in. See our park's Kern River camping etiquette tips.
