September on the Kern brings plenty of sunshine and our lazy river flow on the upper Kern River remains ideal for floating and lounging along the banks of the Kern. Fall colors start kicking in around the end of September to the beginning of October, while temperatures drop even more.
Kern River's Edge Campground is completely booked for Labor Day weekend, however we have sites open mid-week and on weekends throughout Fall. Come visit!
In case you need another reason to come visit the Kern, here are some local events and activities happening in and around Kernville, CA.
Care-for-It
Recreating responsibly includes packing trash bags to leave our wild spaces cleaner than you found them. There is a glass ban in the Sequoia National Forest, so remember to use plastic storage containers, ziploc bags, or bota bags for camping gear and kitchen supplies instead.
Micro-trash and cigarette butts are trash. Thank you for caring and picking up micro-trash and cigarette butts to leave outdoor spaces better than you found them.
Volunteer
Consider giving back with your time and effort by volunteering at one of our local clean up events in September on the Kern River. More and more folks are choosing to get outdoors and spend time in nature, but not everyone understands the imprint that is left behind. It's easy to think, oh, that's only a little bit of trash, or those are really small pieces of trash. But micro-trash adds up and ends up affecting wildlife and also water quality.
